The North Aegean Sea is an oligotrophic region in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea (40°0'-41°0' N, 23°8'-26°0' E). The region considered covers 8 374 km2 and is defined by the Greek boundaries (eastwards) and the 20m and 300m isobaths, where most of the fisheries operate.
