The Guinean ecosystem extends over the continental shelf between 13 ° 19 ' W and 17 °W and 09 ° 03' N and 10 ° 50' N, covering an area of 42917 km2 mostly at shallow depths of 20 to 40 meters (Domain and Bah, 1993). The Guinean coastline of 300 km long is lined with a dozen rivers and thus comprised of dense network of waterways which flow into the sea and mangrove areas.
